A seminar on “A Call to Serve Humanity” held at Hamdard University Bangladesh

Hamdard University Bangladesh organized a seminar on A Call to Serve Humanity” on 06 January 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Multipurpose Hall of the University. The key speaker of the seminar was Dr Shaikh Abdul Hamid, a Professor of Economics and Business at Southern University New Hampshire. He is also teaching at Boston University and Harvard University as visiting/adjacent professor. The Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Dr Md Abdul Mannan presided over the Seminar and Prof Dr Md Nasim Anjum, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration moderated the session while member of the Board of Trustees Lt. Colonel Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury (Retd.), Prof Dr Mohammad Sadirul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Md Nurul Huda, the Controller of Examinations and the Registrar (In-charge); renowned religious scholar Sha-Mohammad Oliullah; all the Heads of the Departments, all faculty members and students of the University were present at the seminar.

The seminar started with recitation from the Holy Quran. In his speech, Prof Hamid briefly spoke about his struggle of his physical condition throughout his life and explained how he has overcome from it. He also mentioned with examples that nothing is impossible in this world and his special message to students and all audiences of the seminar was “Never give up, if it requires getting a thing done in its own right”.Prof Hamid presented the relevant issues/aspects of humanity and they are: (a) proper purpose of our life (b) unjust economic distributive system of our world (c) Importance of hard work (d) what it means to be a great human being. He also briefly spoke the real pictures and statistics of the current world to emphasis on the necessity of humanitarian activities. Finally, he urged and hoped that all of us should be humane.

Prof Dr Md Abdul Mannan welcomed and thanked the speaker (Prof Dr Shaikh Abdul Hamid) to attain the seminar. He mentioned that a university is a community of scholars and students can be motivated to obtain knowledge from them. In addition, he also said that the main purpose of the education is not only to obtain knowledge but it is also to help the students understand who they are. He briefly discussed the philosophy of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh and Hamdard University Bangladesh and its similarity with today’s tropic. At the end, he advised the students to be humane to their family, community/society and country.

Prof Dr Md Nasim Anjum expressed his sincere thanks to the key speaker for his valuable time and precious speech. He briefly discussed the positive characteristics of humanity and emphasized on the philanthropic activities for all nations.
