Leadership, Power and Influence

Basic elements of leadership: Introduction, elements of leadership.

Leadership components: Issues with leadership definitions. Leadership components or what makes something ‘leadership’

Comparison of leadership and management behaviors, Comparison of leadership and command concepts: performance principles and leadership behavior Comparison of leading people and leading the organization Defense Leadership Framework Capability

Key leadership considerations: Functional leadership model. An organization’s culture will determine who will lead and what leadership styles and behaviors are acceptable Responsible followers must exercise judgment and not just blindly follow a leader ‘come what may’

Schematic of moral leadership: Pre-deployment work up training turns the unfamiliar into the familiar. Values such as care compassion and respect form the basis for sound leadership. Leadership at sea where the Captain ‘is the ship, ADF leaders continually look for opportunities to improve the odds in their favor and build resilience in themselves and their team. Strategic leaders shape capability and create conditions for success.

Executive construct of the Defense Leadership Framework: -Integrating Defense Leadership -Leadership Capability Areas Effective military leadership training must replicate as accurately as possible the demands of operations.
