The Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine of Hamdard University Bangladesh (HUB) organized the 9th International Yoga Day 2023 on June 21. The event was arranged at the Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan Conference Hall of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh corporate Head office at Rupayan Trade Center, Bangla Motor, Dhaka. The program was aimed at promoting the practice of Yoga and its benefits for physical and mental well-being. The theme of the day was ‘The world is one family’. The occasion was honored by the Managing director of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh and esteemed founder of Hamdard University Bangladesh, Dr. Hakim Mohammad Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan as the chief guest, and Prof. Dr. Faruque-Uz-Zaman Chowdhury, the Vice Chancellor of HUB, as the chairperson. The event was illuminated by the presence of a group of exceptional guests: Second secretary (education) of the Indian High Commission, Dhaka, Mr Rajendrar Singh, Deputy Managing director of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh, Hakim Mohammad Jamaluddin Rassel, Academic Chair of Hindi & Head of the Department of Modern Language Institute of Dhaka University, Prof. Mrs. Poonam Gupta, Prof. Dr. Md. Ajijul Haque, State University of New York, Lecturer of Alternative medicine of Health Education Directorate, Dr. Md. Hasan Imam Tipu, Mohammad. Sharaiful Islam, Director, Marketing of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh, and Md. Amirul Momenin Manik, Director, Information & Public Relations of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh. Distinguished participants from different educational institutions and government organizations attended the program. The guests delivered their valuable speech on the history, practice and the necessity of Yoga.
A noteworthy highlight of the program was the keynote speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Munawwar Hossain Kazmi, the distinguished Unani Chair of the Faculty of Unani and Ayurveda Medicine at HUB. His widespread knowledge and insights on Yoga and its connection to traditional medicine fascinated the audience. The program had three parts: Demonstration, Interactive session, and discussion, which consisted of explaining the core utility of Yoga practices to the attendees, which would be beneficial for both mental and physical aspects connected to traditional healing practice. The program not only contributed to the advancement of knowledge but also served as a testament to the dedication of HUB to promoting holistic wellness through the convergence of traditional and contemporary practices. Overall, the celebration of 9th International Yoga Day 2023 turned out to be a success, with a positive impact on the participants and reinforcing the importance of Yoga in modern society.
