Biochemistry Laboratory

Biochemistry laboratory (Academy), Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine of Hamdard University Bangladesh for the practical purpose of BAMS & BUMS students. This laboratory is well equipped and different types of biochemical procedures are conducted in this laboratory, sus as -

• Clinical chemistry examination of different body fluids, urine and other samples.
• Blood Glucose, HbA1c.
• Liver function test.
• Renal function test.
• Lipid profile examination.
• Vitamins & Minerals estimation.
• Serological examination for different antigens and antibody.

The laboratory is used to find out antidiabetic / antihyperglycaemic properties containing medicinal plants by applying plants extracts to animal models.

The research interests of this laboratory are wide ranging, and encompass the study of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells using the methods of microbiology, genetics, biochemistry and biotechnology.

Microbiology Laboratory

Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine of Hamdard University Bangladesh has two microbiology laboratories: One is for academic purpose and the other is used for diagnostic services. The microbiology laboratory (academic) is used for the practical purpose of BAMS & BUMS students. This laboratory is well equipped and different types of microbiological procedures are conducted in this laboratory, sus as -

• Different types of microbiological staining techniques.
• Identification of microorganisms.
• Differentiation of microorganisms.
• Biochemical tests for identification of bacteria.
• Isolation of microorganisms.
• Serological examination for different microbial antigens and antibody from serum.
• Culture sensitivity techniques.
• Microbiological quality analysis of water.
• Microbiological quality analysis of different doses forms of monoherbal and polyherbal formulations.

The laboratory is used to find out antimicrobial properties containing plants by applying medicinal Plants extracts to pathogenic microbes and multidrug resistance bacteria.

The research interests of this laboratory are wide ranging, and encompass the study of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells using the methods of microbiology, genetics, biochemistry and biotechnology.

Pathology Laboratory

Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine of Hamdard University Bangladesh has two pathology laboratories: One is for academic purpose and the other is used for diagnostic services. The pathology laboratory (academic) is used for the practical purpose of BAMS & BUMS students. This laboratory is well equipped and different types of procedures are conducted in this laboratory. Such as -

• Clinical pathological procedures, such as, Urinalysis, Body fluid analysis, Stool examination etc.
• Microscopic examination of different samples.
• Different types of haematological staining techniques.
• Routine haematological examination such as Haemoglobin, ESR, Total count of RBC, WBC, Platelet, Differential count of WBC.
• Histopathological & Cytopathological techniques.

The research interests of this laboratory are wide ranging, and encompass the study of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells using the methods of clinical pathology, Histopathology and cytopathology.

Pharmacognosy Laboratory

Laboratory of Pharmacognosy is located in the Department of Unani Medicine, Faculty of Unani & Ayurvedic medicine, an integral part of the Hamdard University Bangladesh for the practical purpose of BAMS & BUMS students. This laboratory covers wide range of topics such as sources of natural products, their chemical composition, medicinal value, distribution, ethno-pharmacological profile, biosynthetic pathways, isolation, evaluation, quality control, standardization etc.

Vision: To train students to face the global challenges in herbal drug research and make them reach out to newer technology with innovative techniques.

Mission: To reach global standards in herbal drug research and collaborate for better technology exchange.

Scope: The growing needs for herbal drugs standardization and analysis in the pharmaceutical, herbal, Unani, Ayurvedic, nutraceutical and cosmeceutical industries has paved the way for the requirement of well trained personnel.

Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry Lab which is equipped with UV-Spectrophotometer, centrifuge machine, incubator, colony counter, pH meter, digital water bath, refrigerator, rotary evaporator, heating mantle, etc. Adequate number of glassware, chemical reagents and equipments are there for the smooth conduction of Pharmacognosy I & II lab courses and Phytochemistry research activities. Pharmacognosy I lab is designed to conduct visual identification of different herbarium medicinal plant specimens. It is not only a collection of dried plants but also an educational and research institution. Pharmacognosy II lab deals with qualitative analysis of carbohydrates e.g. glucose, fructose, lactose, sucrose, distinguishing between reducing and non-reducing sugar, aldose and ketose sugar and monosaccharides and disaccharides, examinations of starch, extraction and isolation of caffeine from tea, coffee; identification of tannins, alkaloids, glycosides, saponins. The Pharmacognosy lab is one of the most progressive and established lab of the university as well as in the country. The laboratories have internet facility for the faculty and BUMS & BAMS students. Faculty offices and laboratories are provided internet connection from the main communication network of the university.

Pharmacy Laboratory

Hamdard University Bangladeshhas excellent Pharmacy lab that allows the students to get a better perception of the subjects.Prime focus is always laid on researchas this sole factor shall contribute greatly towards a successful career ahead. This is achieved by numerous state-of-the-art labs supported by well-trained lab technicians where students get to perform practical under guidance of experienced Faculty.

Anatomy Laboratory

Anatomy deals with the study of structures of body. Human anatomy exposes the structures of the body and pursues their related disposition by dissections. Hamdard University Bangladesh, faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic medicine has a well developed anatomy lab. The lab is well decorated and full of anatomical instruments. Students can gain their practical knowledge about human body by using this anatomy lab. At the end of the Anatomy course, the students should be able to mention, identify, show, draw and describe the structural components of the body responsible for carrying out normal body functions; use the above knowledge to understand, correlate and appreciate the other preclinical, para-clinical and clinical medical subjects; apply the knowledge of Anatomy with the knowledge of other medical subjects to provide optimum health services in the country and abroad.

Physiology Laboratory

Physiology laboratory was established in 2014 under the Faculty of Unani &Ayurvedic Medicine. It is enriched with sophisticated, relevant instruments and reagents to conduct the experiments of practical physiology to teach the students. All the practical works are conducted by assigned practical demonstrator and supervised by respective professionals. It will help the student to understanding fundamental physiological processes and correlated with clinical care.Each of the traditional method of practical examination is described under some points like principle, purpose, requirements (instruments and reagents), procedure, observation/ result, comments and precautions. At the end of the practical,there is an OSPE (Objective Structured Practical Examination) study questions including “OSPE Procedure Station” and “OSPE Question Station”-related to the practical and also to the subject matter. System specific experiment on Practical physiology are conducted by following the standard guideline.The goal of physiology labis to demonstrate the students on different physiological systems which are integrated with cell, organ and systemsfor ensuring human health. We also give emphasis on research. Existing faculty expertise currently spans not only the contemporary fields of physiology but also emerging multidisciplinary areas.

Medicine Laboratory

Medicine lab is located in the Department of Ayurvedic Medicine, Faculty of Unani & Ayurvedic medicine, an integral part of the Hamdard University Bangladesh for the practical purpose of BAMS students. Acquire appropriate knowledge and skill to become an effective doctor for the society and make them oriented to carry out clinical research in future. Medical students will be able to elicit an appropriate clinical history and physical findings, elucidate the clinical problems based on these and identify the means of solving the problems and collaborate for better technology exchange to reach global standard BAMS doctors.

Community Medicine Laboratory

Prevention & Promotion of public Health are the goals of community medicine and this subject deals with the health and disease in the population of defined communities or groups in order to identify their health needs.

The Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine is provided with a laboratory and other auxiliary facilities. The lab has good collection of models, photographs and charts related to health care delivery. By using the lab students can gain the knowledge of disease prevention and health promotion. The teaching is also carried out at community level.
